In our case, we would use Tabbles with a personal purpose only. Some files are linked to work, but still private, such as pay slips. Those files would be managed by Tabbles (part of our private admin docs).
So just to be sure: if I want to share tabbles with one family member on the same PC (set up as 2 different windows users), I will need to purchase 2 Tabbles Home licenses.
Then, install Tabbles on the PC and register both Home licenses on the Tabbles installation.
This setup will allow to share tabbles bidirectionally between both users (defined and shared by either users).
Should both family members login from different PCs on the same LAN, files and tabbles can still be shared.
Yes, all this is correct. 🙂
in reply to: Lost tabbles in context menu #10220Yes, this bug was fixed in version 3.0.41. 🙂
Hi, The EULA probably needs to be rewritten for Tabbles 3. This is one reason why we are still in beta.
I hope this will clarify:
one Tabbles Home license can be used by only one person. But that person can use Tabbles on 3 different machines. (provided he uses the same Windows user name on all machines — otherwise Tabbles assumes they are different persons).
With 4 licenses of Tabbles home, 4 persons can collaborate with each other; and each person can use up to 3 different machines. This means a maximum of 12 machines can collaborate together.
For non-commercial purposes.
Can the “Tabbles Home” license be used by up to 4 windows users on the same PC?
No, only one person per license. Even on the same machine, to have 4 windows users you need 4 licenses.
“how are users defined? Windows users? SQL server users? Other?”
This can be confusing. There is only one Sql server user (called tabblesClient). So we can rule this out. So we only must distinguish between Tabbles users and Windows users. A Tabbles user cannot use more than one Windows username; but he can use up to 3 different machines. 🙂
in reply to: Share a tabble subtree in a single operation #10216Absolutely right. This is in the TODO list 🙂
in reply to: Copy tabbles from one file to another #10215interesting, but I wonder if it is practical. could you explain it in terms of “click here, then click here”?
I assume you would do
right-click on a file -> click “copy tags to clipboard”
then you’d have to locate the untagged file, right-click it, and click “copy tags from clipboard”?. I wonder if it is practical to locate an untagged file.
What about changing approach? select the untagged file -> “copy tags from…”. But then you’d have to locate the source file. This is already tagged, so it is easier. But not easy…
in reply to: Set the same unique name for two more drivers #10166Hi,
you should be able to tell the file in the disconnected drive, because it appears with an “unplugged” icon. And if you sort your files by modification date, the connected file will appear on top, and the disconnected file with appear in the bottom. So I don’t really understand the problem.
The true problem with your scenario seems to me that you have to tag each file twice. Right?
The good news for you is that we are going to handle synchronized drives (and folders) in Tabbles 3.1.
We also call this “Dropbox integration”.
With Tabbles 3.1, you will be able to tell Tabbles that a folder is synced, and therefore has a “twin” folder. This way, when you tag a file, the “twin” file will be tagged as well. You don’t need to tag twice.
Hi, write at bugs@tabbles.net and I’ll send you the xml files to translate. You’ll get a free license 🙂
in reply to: Overcomplicating stuff #10133Hi guys,
I can understand your frustration with Sql Server. However, please note:
1) If you just want to try Tabbles, you don’t need to install Sql Server. You can use the Cloud option.
2) For serious usage, it is true you will have to install Sql Server. We have published a few video tutorials for that. They are very simple. (link) If you still need help installing Sql Server on your machines, we can do it for a small fee. (Yes, we sell technical assistance as well. Also customizations for that matter.) Contact us for more info.

in reply to: Auto tagging files on network not working #10132Please note that, to tag files on network drives, you have to mount your networks drives, so that they have a drive letter assigned.
in reply to: search file that not tagged with special tags #9990You have to use the “subtract” feature. Subtract some tag.
If you want to see files not tagged with ANY tag, subtract the “tagged” special tag.
You can also subtract normal tags. If you subtract a tag T, you will not see those files tagged with T (nor those files tagged with any descendent tag of T).
