Considering Nefycee is in Germany and I’m in the US when you do the conversion (about 1.3:1 iirc) it evens up. Nefycee made icons too… 🙂
in reply to: Manual Database Doctor #1395Got around it. Used the ‘copy path to clipboard’ rt-clk option in the file menu and pasted it into the box and edited a bit. May be a format thing? Altogether possible it’ll clear up with the next release. If it’s still an issue I’ll put up a bug report in Mantis then.

The tool is in reality useful only when you move/rename folders.
If this happens, then you put in the top field the old path/name and in the bottom field the new path/name (just tried it now and it works ok…).You can also do (maybe faster):
1) close Tabbles
2) you rename/move your folder back to the old name,
3) launch Tabbles,
4) rename/move the folder to its final namehow does this sound?
Pretty much what I did; had a forlder named ‘climate’ and renamed it ‘environment’. Using thr MDD I tried partial file path names (old in top field, new in lower field) and full path names. Terminated with the final and not. Even tried wildcards. Nada.
Tried your idea before I left for work; have a folder tabble to the primary dir. Renamed the dir back in winex, browsed into it (via tabbles folder) all the files there, all had the right tags associated. Could see and open the files when I searched them up via the tag. Changed the dir name in winex, browsed it via the folder tabble, new folder shows, files inside stripped of tags. Search via tabble brought up the files. First file was seen and path changed, the rest were ‘lost’ and showed the old file path.
Could this be a 64-bit issue? (been getting alot of crashed poss due to kernel32 issue) Maybe a ‘rules’ issue? I think I’m doing everything right…
in reply to: New Files, Remind to Tag #1377I’ve always use the ‘files with fewer tabbles’ sort. A life-saver since I dump files from the thumb drive into a couple folders daily. Created a folder tabbles pointing to my incoming directories, sort by fewer tabbles (files with NO tabbles are at the top of the list. 🙂 ), and away I go. Been doing it this way since before we got rules, so no rule required… LOL
If you want to pull multiple folders into one file window though… I guess you could create rules for each folder that assigns a "new" or "categorize me" tabble to new files. Once you categorize them you unlink the "new" tabble. (The new link/unlink panel coming will make it easier 😉 )
If you’re just dealing with one directory then a folder tabble should do the trick just fine.
in reply to: Previous Crashes Gone, but so has my GATO License #1371If you’re running 1.2.1 beta 1 then it won’t recognize the GOTD key. (thread about that at https://www.tabbles.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=146 ) 1.2.0 should though. I don’t know how the GOTD keys work so it’s possible the uninstall cleared it. Andrea would probably be able to tell you more.
All bugs are being reported in the Mantis tracker at https://www.tabbles.net/support/ . There’s a link right there in the Bug forum description.

mrdnain reply to: Feature request #1359If I’m understanding what you’re asking — In the new beta (1.2.1) check under edit > rules (? pretty sure. at work and not in front of the prg) There you should at least be able to filter unwanted items into a dump tabble. Haven’t played with it much yet, but I don’t see a way to exclude files in auto-tabbling.
As to filtering things out of your results; in the file window after you’ve done your basic search, right click on a tag (under the file) or on a tabble in the suggested column and there is an option to exclude files with that tabble from the results. (only place the option shows up at the moment so far as I can see)
Remember, this beta is the first implimentation of a very powerful feature so it will get dialed in over the next few weeks/months to get more useful and specific.
Don’t get me started on nested Tabbles, though. Something we’ve been hoping for for a while now… 🙂
Hope that helps.
in reply to: Multilanguage – Translation: what and howto #1326Will you be doing a Klingon translation for us, nefycee? Would be good for cataloguing Star Trek collections. 🙂
in reply to: Windows 7 ??? #1293I run Vista U64 and was under the impression W7 was more about cleaning up and stabilizing the interface rather than the big dealings they did between XP and Vista. Kinda like what Andrea notes Vista 1.1. Anyways, will get my chance to see the differences for myself soon… 🙂
There are several meta-taggers out there that are like what you’re asking. Google ‘file tagger’.
As nefycee notes, the alt-c quick-open is excellent for drilling down to find the file you want, and a double-click opens the file par normale. In my use of Tabbles the GUI is more of a help than hindrance to focus me on the info or docs I want to find and, for the casual users I know, it helps in creating a Tabbles database rather than simply meta-tagging a bunch of files. Gives them more of a ‘project space’ feeling.
Andrea: I think he’s talking more about accessing files outside of the Tabbles GUI. The explorer integrated right-click is (at the moment) geared toward adding a file to a Tabbles DB rather than finding one. Good point though and I hope accessing Tabbles via the extension makes it into release eventually. Would be cool.
in reply to: USB drive portability #1246Saw an interesting take on USB portability where the desktop program had a command in the ‘tools’ menu to install a portable version on a USB drive. (Evernote) Seemed to be a pretty elegant way to go about things.
in reply to: What is this karma mod? #1243Used the upper item before (5 dots and title) on a forum system a couple years ago (phpbb) but have never seen the karma thingie. Very cool.
Found a hack for rating the message itself? Saw you were looking into that…
Oh, and thanks for the karma! Will try to keep it from running over anyone’s dogma… (sorry, couldn’t resist)
in reply to: Auto-tagging feature enhancements…. #1235Don’t you dare, Andrea! It would mean I could only say nice things about Tabbles and completely destroy my objectivity. Also would go against my normally cranky nature… 😈
in reply to: USB drive portability #1233I could almost hear background music swelling the further I read into your post! LOL!
Web-based would be a nice touch, but besides a dedicated server I’d bet it would completely change their marketing model and several underpinnings of the program itself. Consider the difference between Evernote’s installed program and the web client and then look at their marketing.
Giving Tabbles USB portability would allow the same functionality without putting their current path into the blender. Nice idea though!
in reply to: Auto-tagging feature enhancements…. #1232Spamname,
Look for the "user-defined auto-tagging" thread in this forum. I posted it a week or so ago, but it outlines much of what you’re asking for and from everything I’ve read here, in the dev-blog, and from Andrea, it sounds alot like what they’re working toward. This will be a VERY powerful feature imho and I know that Maurizio wants to roll this out right and is taking the time to hammer it out in detail and bug-free.
Also, as Andrea mentioned, if you haven’t tried 1.2.0b1, you should. It’s a significant upgrade from 1.1.7. You will also want to grab a ‘real’ registration pretty soon too. I started out with a GOTD license and have since gotten upgraded and it is well worth it!
Keep tossing in the ideas and feedback! Gives us fellow users something to think about and pester the Tabbles team with! 😈
