    Matt,
sure, it makes a lot of sense. If something is bigger, it should also be important…now the question is: how can we decide if something is more important than something else? In other words: what data can we use to understand if a tabble is more important than another? Any hint would be highly appreciated! πŸ™‚

    Thanks

    A.

hello Jfw, and welcome to the forum πŸ™‚

Right now, if the letter of the drive changes, Tabbles gets "confused". This is a known issue and we already know how to get over this: we need to change the way we handle the drives and use a more powerful API that allows us to read the unique serial number of each drive – as soon as this is done, a changed drive letter will not "confuse" Tabbles anymore πŸ™‚

    – Btw, we need to update the upcoming feature list thread…

    Regards,

    Andrea

The 3rd "guy" is actually a girl, her name is Irma and she’s our CFO/legal/administrative person. We don’t talk a lot about her cause she still has her job (and works with us in the night) and she thinks that maybe it’s better not to let her colleagues/bosses know that she’s working on something else πŸ™‚

    I’m checkin this getsatisfaction.com…

we should definitely work more in this direction

    thanks! πŸ™‚

    Hello Wintermute,

thanks a lot, very interesting topic indeed! We really need to know how our users are using our software and get input from that.

    Thanks! πŸ™‚

    Yes it does πŸ™‚
The last two fixes are mainly coming from the bug reports we got from GOTD users.
    Go ahead and install it!

    Best regards,

Hello Tina and welcome to the Forum! πŸ™‚

if you have registered a license, the installer won’t erase/modify it…so you shouldn’t really worry about it and install the upgrade. This update fixes a lot of broken things, so it’s highly suggested that you upgrade it.

Did you get it from GOTD?

    Thanks,

    Andrea

    Hello Wintermute,

what you can do right now is tha you can tabbles on several PCs and then set Tabbles the change the path of the database to a removable device. You can do that using a pretty hidden feature: Misc > Maintainance functions > change database path.
Then, if you also have your data on the removable device, you can see your data categorized on each of those computers.

We also have the collaboration features to do check-in and out of files along with the tabbles linked to them (most to send some stuff to colleagues and get back something which is still categorized).

Now, I know this is not what you’re looking for.
We’re planning to release archiving/backup and versioning features, for the Business version, around the end of November (those are in alpha now). Doing some sort of syncing between devices is also an option – maybe for a bit later.
    Anyway:
    – what kind of syncing would you expect?
    – how do you expect it to work?
    – if you have any software that would be a good example, please point us to that.

P.S.: this is not the place for a sales pitch, but we’re giving away the Business version for a HEAVILY discounted price before we release the "real" version. Just PM me if you want to know more.

    Best regards,

    Andrea

    Bob,

thank you SO MUCH for your effort, it’s indeed highly appreciated.

We’ll send you your license asap and will check your version tomorrow and get back with some feedback only if we see something very wrong in it…otherwise you’ll the dutch translation in the next Patch.

We will probably be doing the default database in dutch too, but I think I can handle it using google translate (if you something silly in that, please let me know also).

    Best regards and thanks again,

    Andrea

Edited – there is a new .xls file with some comments in the next post!

    Translation stuff

    Ok guys, here you are!

    How it works:
All you get is an xls file (you can open it with Excel or the free OpenOffice) and you get the original text written in English and a rough translation done by Google Translate.
All you need to do is to check the strings in your mother language, compare them with English and fix them if they sound stupid.

    The rules:

    1) Don’t mess up with the order of the lines: those lines will be copy&pasted again into another app, and it’s crucial that the order in which they’re pasted is the same as the one we provided. I guess you understand why πŸ™‚

    2) Beware of special characters: there are some stuff like the {N} or the [N] or the [1] that should NOT be touched in anyway! Those are handed specially as a part of the program will replace them with something else.

3)Remember to be consistent: if you translated the word "Combine" with a certain word once, you should stick to that word.

    4) Feel free to delete the other languages in the file if it makes it easier for you: just don’t mess around with the lines in YOUR language!

    5) Try and use the italian as extra reference: when translating from English to a more rich language (as German or Russian) which have for instance masculine/feminine/neutrum, you often need to understand what is the subject of the sentence, and maybe the string won’t help you. In those cases, my suggestion would be to use google.com/translate and translate from Italian to your target language – the italian language was made by us developers, and therefore it’s supposed to be correct πŸ™‚

I guess that should be it.

    —————-

If you don’t see your language in the translation: you’re still very welcome to send a translation to us! I suggest you advance that way:

    1) you copy ALL the english text from the excel spreadsheet.
    2) you paste it into google.com/translate (after selecting the correct output language).
    3) you copy the output of google.com/translate and paste into the excel spreadsheet making sure that the last line in English correspond with the last line in your english – as the spreadsheet looks now.

    ——————————-

    A final word:

To those who didn’t understand it yet, currently Yellow blue soft is a bunch a of crazy guys working in the basement. We did quit our jobs and started working on Tabbles as we think that it’s just about time someone brought a relational database into file management and made a desktop application that looked better than edgy and boxy crap you see just about everywhere.
But that’s not all: we’re also enterpreneurs and therefore we’re looking forward to sell our products, grow a customer base, hire people, make some money, grow the company, develop more products, hire more people, make more money and finally buy Microsoft (or what’s left of it… πŸ˜€ ).
What you’re doing for us now, is helping us developing our product to further realize our dream. In return we’re giving you a license of our pumped-up and not yet fully developed Tabbles Business…this is not much but it’s all we can afford right now.
On that day when we will (hopefully) be a larger company and have many employees, please:
    1) Try and remember us as the crazy guys working in the basement.
    2) In case we forgot, please come and knock at our doors and remind us that once we were the crazy guys working in the basement and that you were the once helping us out with our dream. I hope we won’t have forgotten you at that point, cause if we did it would mean we also forgot our dream.

    Thank you all,

    Andrea and the Tabbles team.

Hello Misuskaten and welcome to forum!

We’re aware of this issue and we’re afraid there is no easy solution to this…

the problem is that most (if not all) of the windows apps assume are coded assuming that the files sit in the same folder. We’ll try to find a workaround to this, but right now I’m obliged to say "no promises here".
(then of course our core developer Maurizio could pop a rabbit out of his hat and solve the issue in 1 hour… but still no promises :-))

    best regards,

    Andrea

Yes you’re right: we made a lot of truly unconventional choices for the GUI and now we’re thinking of "hiding" some elements of the interface and leave them to "power users".

There is already a FAQ on the website… do you think we should have it in the software as well? (We can place a link to it in the program…)

As for the localization: I won’t make it to upload today the stuff you need… it’s gonna be the first thing I do tomorrow.

P.S.: our project manager will get back to you about the other feature requests you did.

    Best regards,

    Andrea
