If the inherited tabble -doesn’t- show up under the file
It doesn’t. Ok, so I consider that problem solved.
As to scanning a set of file results – Probably like anyone I key on color, size and shape of the tags to get a quick idea of what I’ve got
Ok, but isn’t it easier to scan the list of combinable tabbles (which is located in the main body, before the files), in order to get "a quick idea of what you’ve got"? After all, that list does not contain repetitions. Scanning the tabbles below the files instead means scanning a list which contains the same tabbles over and over. What I don’t get is why you prefer to scan a list with a lot of repetitions, instead of a list which contains exactly the same elements but without repetitions.

I see. Sorry, I can’t help you then. I suggest asking at some Microsoft forum related to the .NET framework installation. 😳
in reply to: Installation failed #1857Hi,
I’m sorry, I have no idea why the installer is not installing the Framework 3.5sp1.
You could try to install it manually. Just go to this address and click "download". Installation should be pretty much automatic. It could take 20 minutes or so.
in reply to: Opinion on 1.4.5 #1856Precisely what I said there; If I place all my people tabbles under a parent-tabble, topic under a topic parent, etc then for a file with person, topic, agency, place tabbles it will inherit 4 extra tabbles. So each file can double the number of tabbles
so far so good…
which makes it harder to quickly scan a set of files
I don’t see how this follows.
I assume you are still using the file-view-mode where tabbles are displayed under the file. But even in this case, inherited tabbles do not appear below the file, so I don’t see why it should be "harder to scan a set of files".
Could you explain?
in reply to: Opinion on 1.4.5 #1850…and this is precisely why I don’t use the nested tabbles
So you have a flat list? Interesting.
it also requires adding upwards of 5 (or more!) very useless tags to all my files. …. … .I’ve asked for a switch or some other way to allow the user to chose whether the parent-tabble is inherited, at minimum.
Could you elaborate? I mean, what exactly is the problem with files inheriting tags which were not directly associated to them? What problem does this cause to you?
in reply to: Opinion on 1.4.5 #1833Hi,
Do files added to child tabbles automatically inherit all of the parent tabbles?
Yes, they do .
If I create tabbles according to my colour groups and put all the tabbles of those groups in there, does that mean that in the classic workspace the tabbles all disappear and end up in single tabbles with the name of my colour groups?
Yes.
That would make the classic workspace less attractive as I would have to drill down into tabbles to find things I might not be thinking of when opening the app, you know?
Less attractive, yes. But not entirely useless. It’s like the windows desktop. You can see folders on the Windows desktop, but you don’t see subfolders. You have to open a folder to see its subfolders. But that does not make the desktop useless.
Also, you can put a tabble into another tabble, and at the same time on the workspace. So you don’t have to drill down, but you can see it in two places. (hold ctrl and drag to copy a tabble)
in reply to: Development thoughts – The DNA ToDo list #1721Thank you MRDNA. I have bookmarked it and will read this thoroughly as soon as I’ve finished a change I’m doing in Tabbles.
BTW, since your list evolves over time and invites inline comments from other people, a google wave might be more appropriate. If you create one, I’ll contribute to it (e.g. mark things done over time). My address is maurizio.colucci@googlewave.com.
in reply to: Commands in POPUP #1702In the next version I’ll make the popup configurable. You’ll be able to add "copy path to clipboard" and "open" to the popup, and remove "history" and "edit rule". (the latter is needed for discoverability so it must stay by default. The first will probably be removed by default).

The halo is the ring around the tabble
Earlier this was the "butterfly", I think
Well, no, that’s not what halo means

Could you check the following:
Check-in should be changed to import.
What is: Quick halo black / white?
Regards, 😀Thanks for the feedback. I am adding "check-in -> import" and "check-out -> export" to the todo list.
The quick-halo is a halo that appears around the text, and which is quick to draw (as opposed to the shadow). Maybe I should change it to "black halo (quick)" .
The purpose of the halo is to increase tabble text readability when your wallpaper has high contrast or noise.
in reply to: Translation issues #1595I am fluent in both languages. Some of the entries are hard to translate because of the translation in to English.
Actually they are not translated into English from some other language; we have written everything in English from scratch. However we are not mother tongue. If you think we have phrased some sentence poorly, I’d appreciate if you’d let me know.
I assume you would change the term "check-out" to something else? "Export" maybe? (Which was my first choice.)
P.s. if I get stuck on another entry, can I knock on the door again?
Of course you can.
Thanks for your kind words, see you soon. 😉
in reply to: About thumbnails… #1592I don’t get if you are asking for bigger icons, or just for higher resolution icons.

I was looking at that last week and as we ‘lost’ the collaboration feature a few releases ago I can’t see any way to import the zipfile. Am I missing it somewhere? You’re right, I removed the button and forgot to put an entry in the menu. I didn’t think somebody was using it. I’ll put it on for 1.3.10.
in reply to: Translation issues #1588"Check-out" means "export". You’re right it’s a poor choice of words; apologies.
The purpose of the function is to let you create a zip file containing files and their tags, which can then be imported by someone else keeping the tags.

About a spanish translation: to my knowledge there is nobody working on it. I’m sure Andrea will be able to tell you more about this.
in reply to: About thumbnails… #1586Since the file icon has become smaller, I thought such a high resolution for thumbnails wasn’t needed anymore, so I decreased it.
(And I don’t see what good it would make to increase the thumbnail resolution while leaving the current icon size)
Are you by any chance referring to the "gallery" file view mode? That’s the only place I can see where it would make sense to increase the resolution.
