I just had to recompile and add

    TextOptions.TextFormattingMode = "Display"

    to each window in XAML.

    This is done in 1.5.3 RC1 😉

The final release is imminent (one or two days)

I have a lot of tabbles called "ABC" and "ABC-XX" for example
When I search for "AB" both appear, but I can’t exclude "ABC-XX" by writing "AB, -XX"
Is it possible to fix this? Does it make sense?

Yes, it’s possible and cheap. Will be there in the next version.

    @mrdna

    Thanks for the comments.

Tabbles is certainly running faster overall – the odd slowdowns do appear to be gone

It’s true that the permanent hang (the one from which Tabbles would not recover) is gone. However, as you note later, much remains to be done.

I suspect the remaining hangs and slowdowns are due to a wrong usage of threads on my side. I am trying to rewrite that part.

It also works as an OR operator for the tabbles BTW which is incredibly useful to boil down an idea right from the search box.

I am surprised you find the OR for tabbles useful. the OR is there for historical reasons: to ease dragging on files onto a precise groups of tabbles. Once this was useful because you did not have the side panel. But now that you can drag from the file panel main body to the side panel, I did not see a use for the feature anymore, and I though this was confusing. However I won’t remove the feature.

Type in partial names of tabbles (EX: tabb, quic) highlight the tabbles, right click and combine!

    I see.

Perhaps Maurizio can add the "Enter" key to combine/open tabbles? (would be very handy)

ENTER is not possible since it would create a collision when typing in the search box. I can however create an ALT+something shortcut.

The browser button has been a huge feature as well! (absolutely love it!) Any way to get auto-tagging rules to run on internet addresses?

A rule matching what? Part of the url name?

Anyway this is a fair amount of work, I cannot afford to do it now. 😐

Nice that it won’t let you add the url more than once, but rather than just say "Oh no you don’t unless you break the address" perhaps the box could show the saved url’s tags and offer tag, untag, and bookmark rename buttons?

This is in the TODO list, but is surprisingly not easy.

Definitely like the ability to create a rule when you create a new tabble.

    I am glad you do.

Speaking of rules… Could you add a "recently tagged" history box (like the auto-tagged history box)? Would be useful to quickly find newly added files/urls that I forgot to add a tag to (or realized needed a new tag or …). Currently I have to go via tools>advanced>all tagged files (or click on "tagged" in my favorites. 🙂 Nice feature, favorites),

I can’t afford that feature right now. As you say, this is already possible with the "tagged" tabble. See below.

    sort by recently tagged,

Actually, if you use the tools menu, sorting is not necessary. Files are automatically sorted by recent_tagging_date. But you are right that this does not hold when you click "tagged" in favorites.

What I can do is add a shortcut for displaying the tagged tabble, already sorted.

The only problem that would remain is that you would still have to scroll down past the tabbles list to see the files. But this problem is only due to the fact that you don’t use tabbles nesting, so you have lots of toplevel tabbles. 👿 Since Tabbles is not usable in that case anyway (takes a lot of RAM), it does not make economic sense to work on that right now.

FWIW, been working with the tree and child/sub-tabbles and really starting to warm to how the file panel works and how I can use it to try and tame the huge number of tabbles and files I have in my primary DB. Not ready to throw out the workspace yet, but am seeing some great strides in it’s usefulness.

I am glad you are starting to use nesting (to repeat, Tabbles is currently not usable without nesting, due to enormous memory usage due to many tabbles visible at once).

    Cheers 😉

It would be nice to be able to configure the system tray icon notifications.

You can already do that: options > configure one-click tagging popups.

    More specifically?

However, I would like to totally kill off the one that tells me Tabbles has started each time I boot up 😡 ;). I rank that one up there with the ‘are you sure you want to exit’ when I try to leave a game .

I am adding this to the todo list with low priority.

Ok, a toggle from the options menu is easy to do. I’ll try to put it in the next version.

    Hi,

Just delete the config folder. It is located in DocumentsTabblesConfig.

Sorry for not replying earlier. 🙂

This is strange. Any ideas? ❓ ( By the way, the folder is a colored folder ….I wonder if that is causing this strange behavior)

Did you create this folder, or is it a system folder? Could you tell me the exact path?

What do you mean by "colored folder"? How did you change its color?

I still hope in the future there will be workspace with all open tabbles

Excuse me, what do you mean by open tabbles?

There is one more minor, but important improvement: when you build and show tabbles list (after 1st tabble was selected) it will be much better to sort tabbles by folders 1st and by names 2nd. Right now tabbles from different folders are mixed and it’s not useful.

Would you mind making a detailed example? Because it seems to me it’s already like that. 😯 In the example, please state in what order tabbles are presented now, and in what order you think they should be presented.

Considering that, for me at least, the files can populate relatively slowly (a half sec to a full sec at the slowest) couldn’t this delay the display rather significantly? Make it act or look like a program hang?

I am thinking to show files in blocks of sixty or so. So the delay will be very small. And I don’t think it would make a difference, because I suspect you can’t focus on a zone anyway while files are being drawn somewhere else. This must be tested of course.

Because I try to cath all list before next click :). I can’t concentrate on tabbles, because I see new and new elements in the list :). It’s more psychologycal problem (and may be it’s my personal problem),

I see. Maybe the problem is that you see a lot of movement in the file zone, so you can’t focus your attention on the tabble zone.

Suppose the files appeared all together, suddenly, and not one by one as they do now. There would be no animation to distract you. Would this solve the problem?

When I click any tabble i can see list of possible combinations (list of tabbles) and list of files, matched with already selected tabbles in one combined list. Right?

Right. First, a list of tabbles. Then, a list of files.

And I can see this list in progress, it does not appear instantly – it takes short time.

Wait. What list can you see in progress? The list of files or the list of tabbles?

On my machine, the list of tabbles appears (almost) instantly, whereas the list of files appears with a delay. Do you confirm?

Or does the list of tabbles appear with a delay on your machine? This would be a bug.

Of course I can click another tabble before list is complete, but it’s a bit uncomfortable 🙂

Do you mean you are uncomfortable clicking a tabble from the list of tabbles before the list of files is complete? But that’s exactly what you are supposed to do… why does this feel uncomfortable to you?

It will be very good for me to have a possibility to combine some tabbles ASAP (without delay caused by file access) and then wait a bit to get filtered list?

I don’t understand… it should already be like that. When you open a tabble, first the combinable tabbles are displayed in the main body, and only then the disk is accessed and the file list is built and displayed. So you can easily double-click and combine a tabble before the files have been displayed.

There is no access to the disk until after the combinable tabbles are displayed.

(The above is only true when you opened an ordinary tabble. It does not hold when you have opened a folder-shortcut, aka folder-tabble).

"mkayi" wrote: Okay, now I am confused.

So, in detail, how does inheritance and nesting tags work?

Suppose you have file "pluto.png" and two tabbles: "Mammal" and "dog". Drag and drop tabble "dog" into tabble "mammal". This tells Tabbles that a dog is a kind of mammal.

Now put "pluto.png" in tabble "dog". Open tabble "mammal". You see pluto.png. That’s all.

In other words, pluto has been automatically tagged with "mammal", even though you only tagged it as "dog".

    art
    |_music
    |_painting
    ….|_oil

when I tag something with "oil" I expect it to be automatically tagged with "painting" and "art" also, but not with music. Evernote has nesting tags without inheriting parent tags and that is just a load of BS, as it does not do anything to sort out your stuff.

Tabbles works exactly as you describe.

The obvious advantage is that you are able to tag a file with only the most specific tags , and have the less specific tags automatically applied.
