Is there a way to tag a file within Word 365 or do I need to locate the file in (Windows 11) explorer?

As I know, Word itself doesn’t have a built-in tagging feature for files. The best approach is to save your document first, then tag it in Windows 11 Explorer under Properties → Details. Alternatively, you could organize files using OneDrive or SharePoint labels if you’re in a business environment.

In Word 365 itself, there’s no built-in feature to tag files directly from within the app. If you want to add tags (metadata) to a Word document, you’ll need to do it through Windows 11 File Explorer.
