      Hello,
I’m in need of the categories to arrange my tabbles (and files) properly – please give them another chance, perhaps as an option! 😮

      Best Regards,
      Misukasten

Hi, I’m coding this right-now, as explained in this blog post. I expect it to be ready on monday.

      Hello,
another remark: I just tried out 1.1.7 Beta 1. Adding Tabbles to files, you can choose existing tabbles only from a list in alphabetical order, not by categories / color names. This is confusing. When I am adding tabbles to a picture, I don’t need my music or documents tabbles.

Would it be possible to offer the old category or color name list of tabbles?

yes, this is also already planned… the whole window will soon be redesign in order to allow the user to sort his tabbles in different ways.

Btw: are you happy with this "Categories 2: the revenge"?

      Thanks,

      Andrea

I feel that the removal of the catogories has greatly reduced the usability of the program.

The ability to store and retrieve large amounts of information requires that we can group these into easly recognised clusters. For your programme to be of use in storing large numbers of files in many folders we need to be able to rapidly drill down through the groupings to get to what we want. Why your program is useful is that we can have files stored in multiple groups and approach it from different directions.

Having removed the "catogories" you have limited us a two dimensional layout with things just lumped on colour. A very primitive system which would only be of use for a limited number of files. As I am partially colour blind this is probably more restrictive in my case then others. But probably starts to become unmanagable sith about 1000 items (i.e. folders).

I would like to see catogories bought back as soon as possible and consideration be given for the inclusion of subcatogories, to provide aditioal options for classifing my files.

But giving colors a name is the same like categories, isn’t it?

You can click on "manage colors" and edit it.
In the different views you can sort and arrange them in "color-categories"

      John,

did you try the 1.1.7? We believe that categories are back and better than before.
Is the current solution acceptable for you? If not, how can we improve it?

      thanks for letting us know,

      Nefycee: you’re the best! 🙂

Andrea I have just upgraded to 1.1.7 After a few weeks awy from the computer I can not see any Categories there and in updating my files lost my old categories.

My liking of Categories is purely because I like to minimize the number of choices on the first screen. I like to drill down to where I am going not gallop about the screen to a location (I am a biological taxonomist so adapted to choices of yes or no). You may have a better way of doing things but I do not wish to addapt.

      John,

I need to understand what’s wrong with giving a name to your colors and then grouping tabbles by color name (shortcut ALT+y).

Secondly, I don’t understand what you mean when you say "my files lost the old categories". Did you mean to say "my files lost the old tabbles" or "my tabbles lost the old categories"?

Also, I see that in a previous post you were asking for multi-level categories (i.e. hierarchical categories, i.e. hierarchical groups of tabbles). I would like to see an example of how you would arrange tabbles if you had such a feature.

Also, how many categories did you have? (i.e. how many colors do you now have)

      Maurizio.

      1) What is wrong with using colours. There is nothing "wrong" with using colours, works fine, it is just a slightly different system. But I prefered the catogories, because I could open and close them to have the tabbles I wish to work on in the screen and everything else instantly set aside. I liked the boundary around the different catogories. I liked folders and subfloders automatically being assigned to a catogery.

      2) Meant to say my tables lost their old categories i.e. as far as I can see Version 1.1.7 does not have categories in it and the old ones no longer exist.

      3) My desire to have hierarchical categories is probably because I have not yet got around to adding all tags to my files. Having given it great consideration I see no need for a hierarchical categories providing all files are fully taget. What I am doing is establishing a classification simmilar to the structure of my folder hierarchial system on the hard disc (which I have developed over 20 years) and then moving to the multiveriable tabbles classification, which I see as the easy way of converting.

      4) My use of tabbles is in a great state of flux at present I have 15 colours. But am regrouping these and deleting some and adding new as I see advantages in Tabbles compared to my old totally hierarchical ystem. Also I have 8 major file groupings in my folder system. I have only added 3 fo these to tabbles so far. I can see that for it to replace my present system it will be very complex. Perhaps I am trying to use tabbles for too much.
