This may have been discussed before, but I thought I could post these ideas here. After using tabbles for about a month I have noticed a few things that could be improved.
1. Auto-tagging.
I have a lot of books/short stories/manga stored on my HDD in folders with names like this: "AUTHOR-NAME – TITLE [KEYWORDS]" That’s where the auto-tagging enters. As it is, I can make rules to add several folders to Author-tabbles, Title-tabbles and add the different keywords to different tabbles. However, if the Author have several different names, pseudonyms (as japanese authors often have), I have to make one rule for each name. In order to make the software "flow" better, it would be great if I could add different keywords in the "If the name contain this"-box. Right now, as far as I know, the comma stands for "and", but in most search-engines a comma means "or", while a + means "and". If I could add several rules at once by separating the authors with a comma, the work I have to myself would be greatly reduced.
I don’t think it would take a lot of work to change, but for all I know, I’m the only one who cares about this. 🙂2. Speed.
As I am using an older computer, certain actions within Tabbles take time. For instance if I combine two tabbles to find the common folders, In my database of 300+ folders it can take 10-15 seconds to list every folder. That’s okay, with an old computer that’s pretty good. However, if I enter a folder to see the files and then hit "Back" the whole list has to be re-searched. If I plan on visiting 10+ folders to look on the files, it will take a long time. I understand that this may be to assure that the tabbles are updated, but it would be great if the list could be left alone when it was just created.
If a "Refresh"-button could be implemented instead, I think that could save a lot of time and processing power. 🙂3. Files/Folders.
This is just a tiny request, but I guess it’s something to think about. As Tabbles is today, there is, as far as I know, not a lot that separates files from folders. For example: Say I have a photo album in a folder and the files inside is named the same as the folder (PHOTOGRAPHER – ALBUM TITLE [KEYWORDS]), but with numbers on the end. If I run the tagging-rules, I get maybe 100+ files that are tagged exactly like the folder, which is pointless, as the folder contains the files. In other words, if the software could recognize the differences between files and folders, so I could tell tabbles to only tag folders, not files and vice versa – that would quickely clean up the database. I make due today, by naming the files something else, but again: This takes a long and tedious time. That’s it. I haven’t been using Tabbles that long so I may have overlooked some functions that could have helped me with my issues. If that’s the case, tell me. 😉
