I’m asking because I feel like I’m not being paid enough for the work I do. The dog is from a shelter and has a history of abuse, so she’s incredibly aggressive towards other dogs. She eats early in the morning and goes for walks about 10 times a day. The owner expects 2-3 video calls a day so she can talk to the dog and make sure everything is okay.

The dog also takes medication twice a day. I also sent her lots of photos throughout the day. Over the last week I’ve been sitting her, she paid me $175 ($25 per day). I don’t know if I’m wrong, but I don’t think she’s paying me enough.

Try using any simple planner or time tracker to visualize your day. When the housewife sees this list in a planning app, where the entire day is filled with red blocks of her tasks, it will be harder for her to argue that $25 is a reasonable price.

You’re truly underpaid, and it’s clear even without complex calculations. If you look at the average rates for how much do dog sitters make standard dog care is already significantly more expensive, and yours isn’t just a basic job, it’s a rather complex case. Ten dog walks a day is almost a full day. Add to that medication twice a day, constant photos, and 2-3 video calls daily. The key here isn’t just whether it’s too little or too much, but calculating a fair rate. You can rely on this data and explain that your work goes beyond standard dog sitting, meaning your pay should be reviewed.
