I need help with a few things.

-Organizing our product catalog and tags.

-Fixing some theme settings that our previous developer had manually coded.

      -Properly configuring Klaviyo workflows

      – General Shopify maintenance questions

The last time we hired someone from Upwork, they completed the work, charged us, and then disappeared.

It turned out they had embedded data directly into our theme files, which we only discovered six months later when we tried to make changes.

Now I’m wary of hiring again.

If anyone has used good freelancers and can suggest how to find them, I’d be grateful.

Upwork, Fiverr, and Shopify Experts Marketplace: Which is Better?

      – How do you vet candidates before hiring?

      — Should I hire different specialists for Klaviyo and Shopify development, or find someone who can handle both?

      — How do I draft a contract to protect myself?

      — What documents should we request to avoid getting into a situation where nothing is clear again?

Don’t look for one person to do everything; instead, divide the tasks: Shopify separately, Klaviyo separately. This will reduce the chance of a poorly designed, universal setup.

Most importantly, be sure to ask for everything to be done without hardcoding (through theme settings, meta fields, etc.) and provide short documentation right away explaining where and what to change.
This will save you a lot of hassle in the future.

When searching for specialists, I wouldn’t limit myself to Upwork or Fiverr. They’re full of random contractors, and the quality varies greatly. They often have inflated prices and an agency-like approach. For a more practical option, consider this platform which brings together freelancers specifically specializing in Shopify development. It’s easier to filter for people with real experience working with themes, meta fields, and custom integrations, rather than just configuration.
