I have a GOTD license and am still evaluating Tabbles. I must say, I have been looking for something like this, for a while. I am not yet sure how cumbersome it is to tag every file I have. Andrea responded to me about the auto-tagging feature, that is in development. I thought I would suggest some additional methods of auto-tagging, that sure would help me organize my files.
First of all, I viewed your auto-tagging ‘blog’. I think that’s great. (It will force me to rename my folders in a sensible way).
Another suggestion: If you select multiple files and request auto-tagging, you can also look for common words and pop up a box for user fine turning.
E.g.
Files:
1. Home Finances.mdb
2. Home ToDo.txt
3. Home Shopping List.txt4. Work ToDo.txt
5. Work Tasks.txt
6. Work Files.txtIf 1, 2, 3 are selected, Suggesting ‘Home’ as a tag. Also, (more advanced) if ‘Finances’ or ‘ToDo’ is already a tag, suggesting that as a tag too.
If 4,5,6 are selected, ‘Work’ can be a suggested tag, and ‘ToDo’ can be included, if ‘ToDo’ tag already exists.
If 100 files are selected, and 5 or more files (for. e.g.) have a common word, that could also be suggested as a tag for those files.
Just shooting off the top of my head. Think auto-tagging that way would help me a lot. Parsing the file names should not be too hard. But, having a list of terms to exclude from tags, etc. could get complicated. But, I know it will organize my files wonderfully. Especially my music files.

Hi again,

you hopefully won’t need that… the auto-tagging rules can be created by drag’n’dropping a folder into one or more tabbles…"spamname" wrote:

Ok, we are planning to make it user define-able, meaning that the user can create a rule like: "if in the folder ‘c:something’ AND the file name contains ‘home’, then link all the files in the folder to these tabbles".
Your request makes some sense indeed…
Thanks for the contribution! btw, did you try the 1.2beta1 already?
Spamname,
Look for the "user-defined auto-tagging" thread in this forum. I posted it a week or so ago, but it outlines much of what you’re asking for and from everything I’ve read here, in the dev-blog, and from Andrea, it sounds alot like what they’re working toward. This will be a VERY powerful feature imho and I know that Maurizio wants to roll this out right and is taking the time to hammer it out in detail and bug-free.
Also, as Andrea mentioned, if you haven’t tried 1.2.0b1, you should. It’s a significant upgrade from 1.1.7. You will also want to grab a ‘real’ registration pretty soon too. I started out with a GOTD license and have since gotten upgraded and it is well worth it!
Keep tossing in the ideas and feedback! Gives us fellow users something to think about and pester the Tabbles team with! 😈
mrdna,
Thank you for your input. I have not yet upgraded to the beta. I will do so soon. I am eager to try out the new features.
If Tabbles is able to do what I want (I am hoping), I will be happy to upgrade. Right now, I am in evaluation mode.
Cheers
Raj
I was thinking at some nice extra feature for the autotagging…
I useally place a date in the files for the letters or document I work on.
Parsing the filename and tagging the files based on the parsing could make sense ?Any other thoughts on this ?
