Welcome aboard! I think I see where you’re going here, and taking Andrea’s response in mind; I don’t know the makeup of the folks you support, but from years in computer repair and having elderly parents using Tabbles also, many of the ideas here would certainly be a benefit to the older set.

1. Single click Tabbles (I normally use single click windows explorer)

I think Andrea’s correct here that an option is the answer. I also think it’s a damn good idea that better get on the to-do list. That said, the left-side tree is a single-clicker and may help in the interim.

4. Be able to apply subtraction automatically on certain extensions (i.e. temp files)

The first time I read this I thought "Saved combines!". Like bookmarks. An over-reading of it, to be sure, but a nice idea that I hope is on the todo list. Andrea’s correct tho that the rules panel should be able to cover that for you.

5. Create a more complete standard of tables for extensions.

(For example:
mp3, mod, mid, wav, wma, ogg, mp4a should all be assigned an AUDIO/MUSIC tabble,
avi, ogm, mkv, wmv, mp4, mov, etc should all be assigned to VIDEO tabble
Common Microsoft docs should all be assigned to DOCUMENT tabble)

I know some users will want to create their own or alter the defaults but i find it frustrating to have to create these.

MANY MORE features desired as I will testing TABBLES pretty extensively to see if it would benefit non-power users.
Many of the users I support need all the help they can get just to find the file they saved recently.
I’ve spent hours with them showing them how to use folders but still they lose track of their precious files.

You can build the rules yourself, but yes, one rule per filetype. A pain in the butt and I would be sure to miss one.

This brings up 2 things I can see; OR functionality in the rules panel (mp4 OR mov > Video tabble. Could have 1 rule instead of bunches, perhaps), and importing structures.

We could build a structure with a rule set that assigned extension to the generic tabbles and that would be a great thing to use to create a Tabbles database, but it doesn’t help if you want to apply it to an existing db… The weakness with the way structures are handled is that importing replaces the structure in toto and clears the database. (a bad thing if you didnt backup the db…) The ability to append the rules/structure into an existing db would be incredibly useful.

Before I go wandering off into the weeds. Nice ideas and I think this general idea should be pursued mightily.
