Test a pre-baked Tabbles database with 200k files

We put together this stress-test in order to give you an idea of how Tabbles would behave with a lot of files. The scenario is not 100% realistic as the amount of tabbles has an impact too, but you can get an idea. The fact that the files are empty shouldn't have an impact on the performance of Tabbles. The Tabbles version used for this test is the 1.5.28. Following version of Tabbles should also be able to read this db...if something is wrong, please let us know.

Get the file

Download it from here:Tabbles_200k_files.zip

Instructions

  • Download and install Tabbles if you didn't do that already (from tabbles.net)
  • Unzip the file Tabbles_200k_files.zip
  • Move the folder "File_test" into C:\ (the result should be C:\File_test)
  • Backup your Tabbles database if you have one!
  • Move the folder "Tabbles" into your "Documents" folder (it should look like C:\Documents and settings\your_user\Tabbles).

Once you've done that, you can browse your db, do some searching and tagging and see how Tabbles behaves...

How did we put together this test

  • Created 200k dummy files
  • Created a few Tabbles using auto-tagging rules (except for the tabble "Contains 51"). Run the auto-tagging rules on the folder: it took 1:55 mins on my laptop (Pentium i3, 4GB RAM), using 25% of the CPU. The auto-tagging process was running in the background and didn't interfer with my (heavy) use of the laptop.

Enjoy!
