What we're working on - Updating often!

Write here all the features you would like to see in the Tabbles! We'll do our best to implement them all in no time! :-)

Nefycee:

in the examples you gave, there is not much room for nested tabbles.

Think of it this way: the color-groups will be expanded to contain files and tabbles. How does this sound?

nefycee wrote:Thanks for this explanation but I still have problems
so I try a little example of my kind of tabbling and maybe somebody can tell what's wrong^^

I've got the tabbles [Rock] [USA] [Music] [Vacation] [Photo]

now I tabbled my "XXX.mp3" with [Rock] [USA] [Music]

my Photo "me-at-muse-concert-in-usa.jpg" [Rock] [USA] [Music] [Vacation] [Photo]

my "sell-guitar-at-ebay.jpg" pic is tagged with [Music] [Photo]

So the nested tabbles doesn't make much sense to me at the moment. :?:

Hierarchical relation means usually GENERIC connection between units.
The only hierarchical relation I can see there is between [Rock] and [Music] because rock is genre of music. (Rock isn't genre of USA or Photo or Vacation)
Seeing that Music is more comprehensive then rock, [Music] will be father tabble of [Rock].

So it doesn't mean that:
1) you have to create hierarchical connection among all and each tabble (it would be imposible)
2) you can't tag file with [Rock] and [Photo] tabble (even there's no hierarchical relation between em)

Ok, home and able to read it a few more times and think 'bout it at the same time. (Work can put a crimp in one's day... ) Think I've got a better understanding of what you're talking about now too.

Andrea wrote:3) Categories/color groups will be gone: a tabble will inherit a colour from a father-tabble (a tabble that has children but not a father). So, you can only assign colors to a tabbles as long as it's a father tabble... if this tabble will later be put inside another tabble, its color will change to the father's color.
Let me rephrase: there will be "father-tabbles" or "root-tabbles", those tabbles will be very similar to the current color-groups (or the old categories), meaning that:
- the father-tabble can have it's own color
- the father-tabble can contain other tabbles
- the children tabbles will inherit the color from their father-tabble

First of all, let's not be sexist here; Parent- and Child-tabbles may be a better way to describe them... :)

I see now that it's more an evolution of the color group rather than a replacement. IE; currently 'people' tabbles are assigned to the People color group which is red. with parent tabbles all my 'people' tabbles will be children of the People parent-tabble which is red. Not much difference, really. A side bonus here though might be that the child-tabbles are hidden from the ground floor window so screen draws and new tabble placements will speed up alot for people like me who hate to hide tabbles. On the down side, all of my files will necessarily have an extra tabble now.

Looks to be a good first step into this feature. Will wait until I get to play with it, but I imagine I'll appreciate having the flat-list option available for the next few versions ;)

Andrea wrote:Our goal is to release a new version with Hierarchical tabbles and the first-use autocategorization wizard around mid-january, and to move from a 30-day trial to nag-screen-ware (same as winzip) at the same time.

We'll post some alpha as soon as they're ready (Maurizio has a working prototype already but currently Tabbles is in a "dismembered state" and it needs to be glued back together first  )

Looking forward to it!

=== One more little teaser ===

Maurizio is working on the hierarchical tabbles (is over 50% done) and while working on that more questions arose. The result is one more extreme semplification round of the file panel:

It looks smaller and cleaner, doesn't it?

Changes:
1) (visible) the former "combinable tabbles" panel has been merged with the body of the file panel, making it look much similar to Windows Explorer
2) (not visible yet) there will be added a column on the left with the tabbles arranged in a tree as well as the disks/folders as well arranged in a tree. The tabbles in the left tree will be greyed out if they're not combinable (if the combination would produce an empty result) or full color if combinable. Of course you'll be able to combine tabbles and folders by drag'n'drop or double click...

well, to me this looks like a greate improvement, isn't it?

:D

I got a screenshot (from Maurizio) at 4.30am and a build 1 hour ago :ugeek:
It's still a bit buggy and there are lots of things to fix and improve... but something is telling me that this will be our last major re-design :)

You can see 2 major things in the pic:

1) the new "tree" on the left: it should look exactly like the tree in XP/Vista/7, and behave veeeeery similar... soon the tabbles in the tree will dynamically become transparent depending on what is being combined (in what we call the "ATB")
2) the fact that in the tree the tabbles are sorted hierarchically! :D

Hello all !!!

Seems really great... I see that a lot of improvements have been done... and... I find these totally great... except that I have a question about the father-child inheritance story...

Last time I checked it was possible to group the table by color.
I was thinking of using this in order to separate some high-level categories (work, private, hobby)
All the work related tables being in one color etc... you got the picture...

Let's imagine i categorise all my letters by sender... I have some "work" senders and some "private" senders....I now can group these in two different colors.... but with the inheritance thing if I pout all the senders in a table "letter" I loose the color split... don't we loose some functionality ?

Wouldn't it be a good idea to do the same as with the auto-tagging... default behaviour as you describe.... possibility to overrule the child tables color (aka <> than parent color)....

Any comments are welcome...
