Maybe you don't know that you can use the arrow keys to move between tabbles and the enter key to select one (enter = click)... I guess we should show a pop-up explaining this or something...
The solution you propose would be pretty counter-intuitive as while you type something happens "automatically" and you might be looking a the keyboard while this happens...
Actually mat has something here, Andrea. Happens in both the quick-tag and the quick-open panels (of course

) and is because of how the search function treats child-tabbles. I'm glad he caught this before I started nesting tabbles in my primary db. Woulda been ugly...
When you start typing in the name of the tabble you're looking for Tabbles starts to filter on-the-fly (very cool, btw). I makes it great when I'm tagging a new file bunch to type in enough letters to narrow the available tabbles down to 1 and hit enter to add the tag and start typing the next tag name, etc until done then add an extra enter and it's saved...
With a child tabble though you
must arrow down to get to the tabble you want because the search insists on the parent tabble being part of the 'filepath' (tabble-path?) and instead of putting focus on the child-tabble you want, focus starts on the parent-tabble.
As a side-bonus - the search box in the file window works the same way but with the extra feature of not being able to find child-tabbles. The file panel only shows parent-tabbles and once you define your search until it only returns a child-tabble then what do you get? Yep, a blank file panel...
You can imagine how much pain this could cause using a db with bunches of child-tabbles. Would certainly slow me down if I tried to use it.
