Appreciate the run-through, Andrea and thanks! Was wondering what the next 'level' was. Don't imagine alien is much of a stretch for me... ;)

Anyways,
mrdna wrote: Seem that when you pick up a tabble the default drop location is the first tabble in the current file panel,

What I mean here is that if you pick up a tabble in the file window and drop it anywhere except on another tabble it will automatically drop into the first tabble in the window even if you drop it on an empty spot. The only way to prevent this is to drop it outside the file window completely (or into a different tabble).

I found this out when I dropped a tabble into an empty space in the window and it still disappeared. Found them in the first tabble listed in the window. Can probably illustrate via a screen shot if need be.

What I called "grey over" is not bold, you will see better with a screenshot.

This is the situation:

I want to select the tabble robot

I typed the letters r o b o t,
so the tabble robot is in bold.
But the tabble science-fiction has the grey part over it, the "selector", I don't know how to name it.

If I type "enter", at this moment, I will select "science-fiction", not robot.

This is the little thing I found strange, in the new Quick view. But it's not important. To select robot, I just have to press the down arrow key once, and then "enter". It's not long or difficult.

Maybe you don't know that you can use the arrow keys to move between tabbles and the enter key to select one (enter = click)... I guess we should show a pop-up explaining this or something...

The solution you propose would be pretty counter-intuitive as while you type something happens "automatically" and you might be looking a the keyboard while this happens... :o

Actually mat has something here, Andrea. Happens in both the quick-tag and the quick-open panels (of course :) ) and is because of how the search function treats child-tabbles. I'm glad he caught this before I started nesting tabbles in my primary db. Woulda been ugly...

When you start typing in the name of the tabble you're looking for Tabbles starts to filter on-the-fly (very cool, btw). I makes it great when I'm tagging a new file bunch to type in enough letters to narrow the available tabbles down to 1 and hit enter to add the tag and start typing the next tag name, etc until done then add an extra enter and it's saved...

With a child tabble though you must arrow down to get to the tabble you want because the search insists on the parent tabble being part of the 'filepath' (tabble-path?) and instead of putting focus on the child-tabble you want, focus starts on the parent-tabble.

As a side-bonus - the search box in the file window works the same way but with the extra feature of not being able to find child-tabbles. The file panel only shows parent-tabbles and once you define your search until it only returns a child-tabble then what do you get? Yep, a blank file panel...

You can imagine how much pain this could cause using a db with bunches of child-tabbles. Would certainly slow me down if I tried to use it.

Ok guys, NOW I get it!!! It took me a while but I can pinpoint the issue now :D
I'm sending this to Maurizio (who unfortunately is now without internet connection nor phone... hopefully only until today!).
I guess this is a known bug already...

Yes, I know this one too... not sure about to solve this one: for sure we're putting a search field into the left tree (working like int the quick) and also (possibly) more visualization options in the file panel body (not sure about this), but I know for a fact that those 2 things need a bit of improvement (hey, that's still a first version, isn't it?) :D

Thanks guys, I'm forwarding those 2 last posts to Maurizio per email!

I'd think that these 2 things were connected so if you solve the "tabble-path" issue in the quick-open/tag panels that it'll solve the file panel issue as well. The problem seems to me to be that the search can't get past the parent tabble somehow, or at least insists on setting up a path to the tabble. If you can get tables to ignore the path/parent-tabble set up then problem solved all around?

Make sense?

== Crazy release in the middle of the night - 1.4.5 beta2 ==

(well, it's 5.00am here so it's actually early morning :D)

=== Download here the .msi as usual ===
(if this is the first time you install Tabbles, remember that you need the .net framework 3.5sp1)

What's new in 1.4.5 beta2

Slightly modified look: we thought it was too grey

A bunch of improvements and major bug fixes, including:

Major bug fixed: when internet is down, it takes 30sec to start Tabbles.

Usability: quick-untag dialog you can now select the tabbles "already in the area", (click to select... we miss the mousever effetct still...)

Major bug fixed: When performing a file operation (e.g. moving a file) Tabbles used to hang until the operation was completed.

Major bug fixed: When moving files with Tabbles (as opposed to with Explorer) Tabbles would loose categorization for those files.

Let us know!

- good night :geek: :ugeek:

I finally got this: and I found a couple of connected bugs... :)

1.4.5 Beta3

What's new in this beta:

1) the search box filters tabbles in the tree as in the Quick window: we're gonna add more functionalities to the search box soon... including some "real" search features :)

2) The Computer special tabble: look at the picture. This tabble should contain the disks and the other stuff inside the Windows "Computer". For you guys who already have Tabbles installed, you will need to do some manual tweaking to have it working:
I) create a tabble named "Computer". If you already have it, just create a new tabble and call it...something. Let's assume you're creating "Computer".
II) open your db with a text editor (C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Documents\Tabbles\Databases\cur_db.tabblesdb ), and add the attribute tabble_comp="Computer" to the element tabbles_db_root, so that it will look like this:
<tabbles_db_root version="3" creation_date="01/25/2010 01:49:30" color_cat_box_down="#00D6D6D6" color_cat_box_up="#80D2D2D2" encrypted="False" cat_font_size_title="62" cat_panel_wt_resizebox="1168" color_generic="21" tabble_comp="Computer">
(if the tabble you created is not "Computer" by "I_am_a_proud_monkie", then you'll need to add the attribute tabble_comp="I_am_a_proud_monkie"

3) a huge pile of bugs have been fixed... but with left the funniest ones there so you can have some fun tracking them   :geek:

Have fun! :D

Installed and shows the computer tabble just fine. Drive icons sorted into the tabbles in the file panel and the tree both. No tweaking required for me.

One bug I can see right off tho is that there is an Internet Explorer icon on the internet address tabble. You know that's supposed to be a Firefox logo, right? ;)

Nice work on the menus by the way, they're shaping up nicely.

yes, I the problem... let's see if we can find a workaround. We just pin-pointed 15 littles things that we're tweaking in the next days (it's about the position of the elements and stuff...

I have question: do you use drag'n'drop URLs from the explorer address bar to the desktop or to other apps? Do you know the existence of this function at all?

Thanks,
A.
