Tabbles zwischen Menschlichkeit und Kommerz

Also während sich das Team und Leonardo freut, einer Lösung näher gekommen zu sein wie Tabbles auch Dateien im Auge behält die mit dem Win Explorer verschoben werden, freue ich mich über die Dinge die bereits funktionieren.
Zum Beispiel eine funktionierende Auto-Kategorisierung oder ein funktionierendes Ubuntu als zweites Betriebssystem. Ja auch passende Treiber für wlan Sticks machen mich glücklich.
Seltsame Kombination? Nun ich gehöre nun zu jenen die Ubuntu für sich entdeckt haben. Und wie viele andere bin ich dennoch nicht bereit mich von Windows und Tabbles zu verabschieden 
Muss ich auch nicht. Mit dem Dualboot oder Wubi ist es kein Problem zwischen zwei Systemen hin und her zu schalten. Das bunte vor Funktionen und Zocker-Treiber strotzende Windows und das das sichere, schnelle, stabile und kostenlose Ubuntu für mehr Menschlichkeit. Eine Kombination die sich heute immer mehr Nutzer gönnen, und nun ich auch.
Wäre AVM nicht der Meinung es wäre nicht nötig Ubuntu Treiber für ihre Sticks anzubieten, wäre das Glück perfekt. Leider scheint ihnen eine Gestalt im Dunkel hinter ihrem Thron ins Ohr geflüstert zu haben das Ubuntu zu wenige Nutzer hat. Daher verzichtet man anscheinend auf den Support für das bekannteste Linux. Macht nichts. Fritz Stick kann ich ersetzen und mir damit das Workaround sparen.
Aber was ist nun wenn Ubuntu läuft und Tabbles nicht? Noch gibt es Tabbles nicht für Linux, aber bei einem Dualen System ist das kein Problem. Von Linux aus habe ich vollen Zugriff auf alle bestehenden Ordner von Windows und nutze weiterhin die selben Speicherpunkte für meine Arbeiten und Dateien. Und das ist der Clou. Mit Hilfe der Auto-Kategorisierung für Ordner, Dateierweiterungen und -namen ist alles wie gewohnt in der Tabbles Datenbank sortiert und zu finden sobald ich mich wieder in Windows befinde.
Also kann man nicht nur Dank der Dateifreigabe (Shared Tabbles), Dateien auf anderen Rechnern finden. Sondern auch unbesorgt zwei Systeme neben einander nutzen.
Ubuntu ist hierfür mein Favorit.

“Shared” menu not showing after 31st of July… (fixed)

HELLO WORLD,
we coded a control (meant for the beta stage of our shared-tabbles) that checks the data and if it’s later than 31st of July, the “shared” menu is hidden.
Of course we forgot about it… We’ll release a fixed version within a few hours.
UPDATE: fixed in the version 1.5.10 (currently online).

HELLO WORLD,
We’ve just uploaded the 1.5.9 rev8 (silent update – you’ll need to manually uninstall if you have a 1.5.9 already installed)
1) Tabbles speaks now Hungarian and Chinese!!! (thanks to Requin and WEntropy for the translation)

- We added more icons to describe various situation
- We unified the dialogues making way more clear how the sharing process work -> now it looks usable for real! 
- A bunch of bugs have been fixed…no, it’s actually a BUCKET of them!

Yes, I hear you: “Yeah ok, but what is this shared-tabbles thingy and what’s all the fuss about?”…well, briefly, Tabbles is turning into a social tagging tool, aimed at tagging files and urls on LAN or in the cloud (yes, in the cloud too – check out this list of tested services). Basically I tag some files and you browse my tags and add some more… and so on. Read more on our forum. Some more stuff (videos, pics…) is coming soon.

Well, this 1.5.4 is mainly a bug-fix release, but Tabbles speaks Japanese now!!! Thanks to Hiroki “Rocky” for this

As I’m here, I’ll write about a couple of other things.
Cool improvements on the forum:
- RSS of topic: After months of wandering looking for phpbb mod to have RSS feeds of a single topic, I just realized that the feature is built in it already :O (Yes, I’m such a dope, I know… ). So now you can subscribe to a topic using your favourite reader, or just using the functions built in each browser:

As I’m here, let me suggest you the RSS tool that made me finally love RSS: RSS live links for google Chrome. It’s VERY tiny, VERY unintrusive and plays a sound each time there is a new feed! Dunno if there is something similar for Firefox and IE7/8… this is what it looks like:

If you want to follow the development of Tabbles, I suggest you have a look to our topic “what we’re working on” (RSS here) which is currently syndicated on the right side of this page.
OpenID: something else I’ve been craving to have on our forum for a long time… finally found the openid-phpbb mod from Masterz. I had to fight a bit with the installation and the configuration – dunno if it was my fault or the developer’s fault, but I wrote to him and he wrote back promptly – and now there is a minor bug with displaying text, but the OpenID login works just fine!
Shared-tabbles are coming…
To thos who follow the forum this is nothing new… to everyone else: this is the most crucial set of features for us. It allows (it’s working already) to several user to share their tagging, and works on a local network, on the internet (as long as there is a shared drive) and also using syncronizing software which have desktop client… I won’t write more about this, but the progresses will be posted on this topic on our forum (you can subscribe to it here).
Something that didn’t work too well: the phpbb3 to bbpress converter.
Well, it does indeed work, it deliver what it promises, and it’s easy to use, but it lacks core functionalities such as converting BBCode and attachments, therefore all the links and the pics in the forum will be lost… nope, not acceptable. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!
